FACILITY HISTORY
(Translated from Stockholms Tennishall)
Stockholm's Tennis Hall was built in 1976 by Jan-Erik Lundqvist, one of Sweden's greatest and most successful tennis players of all time. During the construction, the hall received a 25-year land lease agreement with the City of Stockholm and it was intended that the hall would be demolished as early as 2001. This did not happen. The lease has been extended in installments and following a decision by the Land Board on 13 October 2005, the hall may now remain until a new hall is completed in the immediate area.
The hall is located on classic sports ground. There were already nine gravel tracks here in the 1930s and right next door, where Kristineberg's IP is now located, was the legendary Stockholm Velodrome, where bicycle and motorcycle competitions were arranged in the 1920s and 1930s. The area has always been associated with sports and tennis - and paradoxically, the neighborhood where the hall is located is called "Tennisbollen". . .
